Ava at the Zoo: Where Are All the Animals?
Project Description
Lynn Melling, a talented author (and close friend!) asked me to illustrate and design this enchanting picture book. I love the story and leapt at the chance!
In order to self-publish, we set up Boxercat Books as we intend to publish a few more books in the series, and have lots of other ideas for future projects.
This 32 page book, aimed at children between the ages of 2 and 7 years is now available on Amazon in ebook and paperback.

Boxercat Books
How did we come up with the name? Both Lynn and I are animal lovers and were inspired by our actual cats and boxer dogs. This sparked the idea for our cheeky cat in boxing gloves!
I designed the logo and then started work on a simple single page website which will be developed further soon.
The Book
The first step involved designing all the characters in the story – both human and animal.
I produced thumbnails of all the page layouts in order to see how the text and illustrations would fall. Then, once agreed, on to the finished drawings
I started with outline pencil drawings which were refined and then scanned into Photoshop. Different layers of colour and texture were added. On the more complex pages I scanned individual elements to allow layout changes to be made more easily.
